I recommend installing APNdroid. It’s a great little app+widget that toggles your connection over 3G/edge.
My G1 goes a half day more now since I’ve been using it.

yea, great info. I have the Droid so it was not as much of an issue, but I still deleted some apps I never use, and cleaned up a couple of widgets also.
