Groupie

Update: added labels to icons on all trays as this was highly requested. :)

Here’s the first version of Groupie. It’s a theme loosely based around the idea of dynamic folders. I’ve used tiny Tagged Trays as the icons with Springboards sitting above them that target the larger trays. The buttons will always display the first 4 icons in your tagged tray, so if you add or remove an app from a category this will be shown in the button too.

About Lemon

I got hold of Sweeter Home (preview 1) when it first showed up in the Android Market. After a day or two I quickly realised the potential this Home Replacement had, and built a couple of demo Sweeter Home themes to show what this Launcher was capable of (you might be familiar with the Matrix theme video on YouTube). I started this blog in response to the initial popularity of those videos. Since then I've had the pleasure of lending ideas and beta testing for the developer of Sweeter Home.

Would be great, if this theme worked in a QVGA resolution.. please can you make it?

I can probably do something for QVGA at some stage. Not for about 4 weeks though, I go overseas tomorrow! :)

Absolutely love Groupie. Great theme. Just want to do several things with it.
          1. Be able to view better on Droid 2 in horizontal mode. Can you tell me how to do it, if available?
          2. Have all applications show a title on the bottom. (if it can be done, not sure how to do it)
          3. Title the 6 boxes with a title “outside” and below each box. Can this be done?

Hi John. Ok here we go…

            1. Yes, but you need to recreate it from scratch using the existing graphics. Not sure if you can do this on the fly just using copy/paste – maybe you can for some graphics and not for others. I’ll take a look (also something I’ve been meaning to do for a LONG time is upload all my PSD files for people to mess with. I’ll get on to this soon).

            2. Yep – edit each tray, edit the Icon/label style and choose > Icon/Label layout > Labeled icon
Then scroll down and mess with the label text style (which includes font size and colour)…

            3. Again, this needs to be a graphic edit. I might take a look at this today and upload the PSD if it’s in a usable state.

    Lem,

Thanks for the quick reply and I really appreciated hearing from you. I guess I am just a lost puppy when in the edit theme mode. I think its because once past edit theme, I always put up the grid over something, then hit EDIT and go from there. Just seems not much changes or saves. I had LauncherPro originally on my Droid2 and wasn’t all that happy with it, but did like the widgets like power control, so I could shut off things that drained the battery. Also like how each application was titled as you can download a ton of apps. Do you have any tutorials that address D2 for each of your own themes? In any event, thanks for your help, and please do tell me how I will know if you come out with new versions so I can download? Have a great day. John

    lemon,
So far your themes have been my favorites to use, as well as using to learn how to create my own, I am using groupie to create my own them, i’m basically moving the groups to the left page, and then adding basic functions to the center.

My issue is when I got the left page set up, I exited edit mode and tested em out, but when I select one tray after another, the first tray stays on the screen below the current active, how do I set it to automatically minimize other trays once a new.one is selected?

Yo man, in each springboard is a field called “group”.

If you want springboards to close when one from the same group opens, then name the “group” field the same, unique name for all those springboards.

Great theme just needs contact names as well as numbers showing on message springboard.
And also labels on app icons need resizing then will be perfect
